Hannah Elizabeth Feldt was born on July 22nd 2014 at 7:14 am. Weighing in at 9lbs 5oz and 21 inches long!! She was ready to rock and there was no one that was stopping her!!
I woke up around 3:00am ish with some contractions, now I had been waking up for the past couple days with the same thing but I would fall back asleep and they would go away. But this morning was a little different. Corey's alarm went off at 4:00am and by now the contractions were going pretty good and I was up. With Penelope I didn't go into labor until they induced me so I wasn't exactly sure how this all worked. The contractions were pretty strong but I was so afraid that if I went to the hospital too soon they would send me home. We had Corey's mom on call to come watch Penny and my mom had a super busy schedule taking care of Nana and I just didn't want anyone to cancel plans and then for the Dr to tell me it is a false alarm. So I called the hospital and spoke to a nurse who proceeded to tell me to try and take my mind off it. To "take a Benedryll and try to go back to sleep". WHAT!??!? As far as I was concerned Benedryll was not an option but she did say to take my mind off of it so I decided to try a shower to see if that would do anything. Well it did something all right and needless to say we were headed to the hospital. We stopped on the way to pick up my mom and off to Panorama City we went. Once in the car contractions were in FULL FORCE!!! I was yelling and making horrible noises and decided some music would be appropriate to try and keep me from screaming profanities as I had my one year old daughter in the car. Nothing like a little Peter Paul and Mary to keep the language clean :) Well luckily my husband is a superb driver and we all made it to the hospital in one piece. Minus a water bottle casualty, squeezed to death by yours truly :) We grabbed a wheelchair and headed to the second floor. Well we were supposed to head to the third floor but we discovered that quickly as we exited and I proceeded to yell that we were on the wrong floor :) The hospital was pretty empty and we checked in with the nurses at right about 6:30am. They had me set up in a room and were ready to check me when they discovered I was already dilated to 8cm. I asked for an epidural and the anesthesiologist was there giving me her info through contractions and then all of a sudden felt like I was ready to push. They checked me again and sure enough I was at 9-1/2 cm. No time for an epidural and let me tell you I was terrified!!! By now it was shift change for the nurses (7am) but the night nurses were so sweet they stayed on to help cheer me through. And well, it didn't take long. Push time was in full effect and it only took a few before 7:14am rolled around and I had my sweet baby girl in my arms. "I did it!!" We did it!! Our little spitfire was here and both Corey and I were over taken by love!!
Corey's mom made it to the hospital right after Hannah was born and she was waiting along with my mom and big sis Penny to meet the newest little girl. And Corey's dad John came to visit later in the day. We've had many more visitors sense and I will expand more on that in my next post :)
Due to her size we had to have Hannah's blood sugar tested every few hours and they also checked to see if she was Coombs positive like her sister, and sure enough she was. (Basically this means that my blood cells are fighting her blood cells.) Blood sugar never was an issue but we did have an issue with jaundice due to her blood type not being compatible with mine. That required multiple heel pricks (poor girl) along with having to be in a light box the whole night we were in the hospital. It was not fun but it was effective at lowering her biliruben level which is what causes the jaundice. The following day we were sure we weren't going to be let go due to her jaundice but sure enough the Dr released us and sent us home with a biliblanket (a light up blanket that wraps around her tummy to help fight the biliruben and jaundice). We made it home as a family of 4 on July 23rd in the afternoon. I will say the delivery of baby #2 was a whole lot easier than with Penny but the transition into normal life has been a bit more challenging. Although now at 4 weeks later I feel like we are getting into a groove and I feel more and more confident each and every day.
Oh and then there is the love meter :) Words can't express how much love I have in my heart for both of my beautiful little girls. And for my wonderful husband. I am the luckiest momma/wife in the whole wide world!! I just sit back sometimes and think how truly blessed I am. My cup runneth over.
