5 Months Old!

5 Months

Our Sweet Penny Lou is now 5 months old!!  I swear she is getting bigger by the second!!  I was looking at pictures of her from last month and I am telling you the clothes she had on then don't even fit her now.  It amazes me how much she is growing up.  She can sit now unassisted for a longer period of time.  She plays on her tummy and grabs at her toys and looks at herself in the mirror.  Her favorite place to be is in her bouncy seat!  She pushes all the buttons to make the music play and she pulls on all of the hanging toys.  She LOVES to smile!!  And she even laughs if you make funny noises or faces.  She has started making mamamama and boobooboo sounds and you are guaranteed a smile when you make those noises back to her.  She's wearing size 6 month plus clothes and we just moved up to size 3 diapers.  She can focus very well on grabbing toys and my necklace/ring and hair.  She usually stays entertained with whatever she's playing with for quite some time.  She takes a short nap in the morning and then a good long one in the afternoon and sometimes she takes another short one before bed.  And she is a solid sleeper still through the night. She goes down between 7pm and 8pm and wakes at about7am.

We started her on rice cereal a few days ago.  I think the new sensation of a more solid substance is a bit strange to her.  Corey tried it and apparently it tastes like cardboard so I can't say I would be a fan, but she doesn't seem to hate it.  She's learning how to swallow and not push it out with her tongue.  And there are never any tears just a face that doesn't make it seem all that appealing.  But she eats it and even throws in a smile when we cheer and tell her how yummy it is!  She absolutely loves to sit in her highchair so that's a plus.  Hopefully once we move onto veggies she will be a pro!

She still seems to be teething although all that has popped through is still just the one little tooth on the side. But everything goes in the mouth.  My sis in law gave me these mesh pouch things that you are supposed to put fruit and veggies in but I have been using them for ice cubes.  They work great cause they have a handle which is not cold so her had isn't bothered.  She loves them.

The pool has become more of a regular thing since she loves the water.  We have a floaty thing with a shade cover (sorry no pic) that she sits in and LOVES it.  And our backyard splash days are already becoming a Sunday tradition and we love it.

Penelope is just such a happy girl.  So full of personality.  Corey and I just don't know how we got so lucky.  We both love her so much and we are having so much fun watching her grow.

Fun in the sun!!

Last time I checked it was the middle of May, but summer is here!!!  It has been nice and hot here in Awesometown.  In an effort to beat the heat we invested in some blow up kiddy pools and lots of water toys.  We are looking forward to backyard BBQs and lots of fun staying cool this summer :)

Happy Mothers Day

My very 1st Mother's Day

Yesterday was my very first Mother's day and man, it was a good one!  We started out with flowers from my two loves, Penny and Daddy.  And then it was off to brunch at the Odyssey  for yummy food and dessert and great company.

Another wonderful part of the day was that Penelope sat up in a restaurant high chair for the first time :)  So exciting!!  No more carrying around that car seat when we go out to eat!
She hasn't started solid foods just yet but she sure enjoyed watching all of us eat and sitting up to talk with everyone.

After brunch we headed back home and were welcomed with a whopping 102 temp!!  Summer is here I guess.  So we blew up the kiddy pools and had a wet and wild time in the backyard with my mom, brother and sis in law and two little twin nieces.

Such a great day!!!  I am so lucky to have such a wonderful mother who inspires me every day.  She has taught me what unconditional love is all about.  I aspire to be the same kind of mother to my beautiful baby girl.  I am beyond thankful for all the love I have in my life.  I truly could not be any luckier!

Harper's 1st Birthday Party

Harper Turns 1!!

This past Saturday my Niece and Goddaughter Harper Joy turned 1.  Corey and Penny and Corey's Dad John and his wife Katherine and myself of course, headed down to Carlsbad to the Klingensmith house to celebrate this adorable little girl.  It was a beautiful day and much cooler down by the beach than here in Awesometown.  Tish did a lovely job of decorating in a "pinwheels and lemonade" theme and lots of family and friends joined in on the celebrating.  Harper enjoyed her yummy cake and lots of presents.  A fun day was had by all!! :)

A Tooth!! And other 4 month excitement!!

Penelope's First Tooth!!

So last Friday we found a tooth starting to come in!!  Both my brother and I got teeth at a very early age so I have been checking Penelope quite frequently especially since she puts EVERYTHING in her mouth and is a drooling champ.  And sure enough I felt around in there and she's getting a tooth.  According to my chart she should be getting her two front bottom teeth but this one seems to be coming in on the side.  A little strange but very exciting!!  She gets a little fussy but nothing too horrible.  I have some of the freezable teethers ready at all times and she seems to like them alright.  Chewing on her stuffed animals seems to help as well.  And I think her fingers or my fingers work the best :)

We try to work a little every day on sitting up.  The Boppy pillow works well and she tries so very hard to balance.  She loves to look around and talk to daddy and play with her toys.

Her jumper seat has become one of her favorite places to sit.  All the toys and lights and it plays music.  She laughs and plays.  It is the cutest!!

About a week ago or so my friend Melissa and I took little Penny Lou to the pool for the first time.  I have to say with all the excitement we have in the bath I thought for sure we would have a splash machine once we got in the water but she acted like she'd been swimming for years.  I think we finally got a splash or two towards the end but not quite the reaction I was anticipating.  Anyhoo, she seemed to like it and I know will become a pro by the end of the summer.  Next on the list of purchases, a blow up pool for the back yard.  Summertime here we come!!

Such a happy girl!!  We couldn't be luckier!
